The guard pulled me down the stairs, gripping me tightly by my arm. I scowled at the floor as we walked along the empty hallway, and my blurry reflection stared up at me from the over-polished surface. The guard took a turn and opened the door to a dark room, pushing me inside, not even bothering to unlock my handcuffs. In the pitch black, tears began to roll down my face. I had survived for three years on my own, but here I was, sniveling in defeat like a stupid teenage girl. If I were in a fairy tale, this would be the happy ending. The part where the hero is triumphant, where the villain was destroyed. My fall from grace. But this wasn't a fairy tale. I would rise to the top again. somehow. Suddenly, a dim light clicked on. I heard the hum of electric generators. I also noticed I wasn't alone. There was someone sitting in the corner of the cell, as alone as I felt. I wiped the tears from my face and glared at the figure. "Who are you?" I said, trying to seem braver than I felt right now. (Okay I am sorry for the Sherlock reference in the title but I honestly couldn't think of anything else sooo...)

I look up to this girl, I thought I was the only one here. She must've slipped in when I was asleep or while I was thinking. ¨Why would you care?¨ I study this girl carefully, making sure I miss no features I must've been tired though, because I could barely look up. ¨So why are you in here?¨ I take caution because I don't know what she's capable of.

"Why would you care?" I rolled my eyes. Well, since it appears we will be spending some time together, I though it might be nice to not just be in total silence. I'm Kimber by the way, it's not a pleasure to meet you." I wondered what this girl's talent was. There was no apparent sign of any contraption to prevent her from using her powers, like the guard over my mouth and my cuffed hands to keep me from unlocking it, so it had to be a mutation of the mind. Possibly she was able to manipulate bioelectricity... although if she had that talent, I wouldn't still be feeling so hostile to her. "So why are you in here?" So no name introduction. She was skipping straight to the ugly details. I smiled under the mouth guard. "Poison kiss. I killed a police officer. I wouldn't be suprised if I get the death sentence. What about you?"

This girl is asking questions that I cannot answer yet, as I may need this girl later. ¨Alright, Kimber, my name is Angelica, and I¨ how can I say this while hiding my powers... ¨Read minds, I got arrested after doing a fatal magic trick, told the guy what he was thinking then he suicided.¨ that should be enough to convince her. ¨So what drove you to kill the police officer? Seems kinda drastic.¨

"Alright Kimber, my name is Angelica and I... read minds." Interesting, a telepath. There was something about how she said it though, as if she were hiding the full extent of her mutation. Perhaps there was more to it. "I got arrested for doing a fatal magic trick, I told the guy what he was thinking and he suicided." That was very interesting, the man must have been a non-mutant, a plain old human. It just didn't seem right though. There was something off about her. "so, what drove you to kill the police officer? Seems kinda drastic." In foresight, it was drastic when I murdered the officer. "Well.. I stole a loaf of bread. Which sounds like a really stupid thing to kill a police officer for, but there was no-one left in the square and I could have gotten nineteen years just for stealing some food. So I tried to talk my way out of it, and ended up killing him to evade punishment. Kind of ironic, isn't it?" I said, half laughing, half frowning. Now that I thought about it, how had I ever thought that I would have gotten away with it? Although I had gotten away with my parents, and that man in the hotel... but a police officer? How could I have been that idotic? I felt as if I were going to cry again, but I forced myself to hold back the tears.

¨What's so off about the way I said my power?¨ I had to prove my power somehow in order to show her it was real... ¨Mind-reading is the full extent of my power as you just saw, and I see your holding back tears.¨ I smile slightly, if I can get this girl to trust me and use this ¨poison kiss¨ we might be escaping here soon. ¨A poison kiss... seems kinda unreal, I don't think you actually have that power.¨

"A poison kiss... seems kinda unreal, I don't think you actually have that power.¨ So Angelica didn't believe me any more than I believed her. The idiot. If I could have gotten at her, I would have. "Fine. If I didn't have the power, why would my mouth be restrained like this?" I said, looking down at the guard that prevented my power. "Why on Earth would I need this if not to block my talent?" Thinking, I realized there were small holes in the guard that allowed me to breathe. I spat out of it, and the droplets that landed on the floor began to sizzle. A bit of paint chipped off the guard, but the restraint itself remained in place, with no sign of weakness. I glared at Angelica. "See?"

¨Interesting...¨ So this girl is being true with me... I guess I'll be true with her too ¨Watch this!¨ I quickly phase into the guards mind and make him punch himself, knocking himself out. I phase back out landing on my feet. ¨Ta-da, now you know my powers full extent¨ I said with a big smile.

"Interesting." Well, at least she believed me now. "Watch this!" As the words escaped Angelica's lips, her eyes became dull, as if there were no life possessing them. As I was making this observation, I heard a thunk in the hallway. The man guarding our cell had passed out. I gasped, and her eyes became bright and shiny again. "Ta-da, now you know the full extent of my powers." Possession. That had to be it, I was right! There had been more to it than just mind-reading. Suddenly, a brilliant thought came to me. "Say... how hard would it be for you to make him unlock the cell? And how did you not think of that before?"

¨Oh...¨ She has a point... ¨Be right back!¨ once I again I phase into the guard, its a little bit harder since I knocked him out, but I got him up and unlocked the cell with the key and just for good measure I left Kimbers chains on, I don't quite trust her yet. I phase back out again, exhausted from 2 possessions in a row ¨Now then, shall we get moving?¨

Angelica phased back out again and I heard the click of the key in the lock on the cell. She returned to consciousness, looking worn and tired. "Now then, shall we get moving?" I looked up to the ceiling, and then down at my cuffed hands. "Could you unlock these first?" Why had I even asked? of course she wouldn't. I continued out of the cell behind her and fumbled with the unconscious guard's key ring until I had unlocked the cuffs and the mouth guard. Leaning down over his body, I placed a gentle kiss on his lips, to ensure he wouldn't wake up and chase after us. "Let's go," I said, opening the door as the alarms sounded.

Was I crazy? running with a girl I barely know escaping? Probably. but the easy part was over. ¨Any ideas on how to get out?¨ I said with a bit of urgency in my voice. ¨Because the easy part is over.¨ I run faster, hoping she will catch up with a response.

"Any ideas on how to get out? Because the easy part is over." About that. I bit my lip, pondering the idea. I didn't have time to think for long. Grabbing Angelica's arm, I pulled her out through the door and through the gate just before it closed. "This way," I said, as we rounded another corner. I may have only been in the prison for one day, but I knew every inch of its polished floors.

So now I'm being dragged around this prison I don't know anything about, great. ¨You sure you know where were going?¨ Looks like I'm in it for the long run...

I could see on her face that Angelica was slightly frightened, as well as exhausted and probably frustrated at me. "Come on, just a little more and we're out of here." I said, continuing to pull her through the halls. A guard appeared in front of us and I looked at the exhausted girl following behind me. I'd have to take care of this myself. I ran at him head on, stealing his ID card as he thought he had caught me. He covered his mouth, but I rolled my eyes and bit his arm. He doubled over in pain from the poison in the wound and I continued on with Angelica, dashing out into the darkness of the night with the help of the stoled identification. [okay, this thread is done. We can continue out in the city.]
